Donald asks…

How to go to Petronas Tower and KL Tower from Hotel Chinatown Inn at Jalan Petaling?

Can someone share on how to go to Petronas Tower and KL Tower from Hotel Chinatown Inn if we will be taking the bus and/or MRT? Hotel Chinatown Inn is in Jalan Petaling. Any other attractions that we can visit from hotel chinatown inn? please share..thanks!

KL Boy’s answers:

If you’re into walking, walk to Masjid Jamek. From there, you can take the Putra LRT to KLCC (Petronas Tower). From KLCC, u can walk to KL Tower. Quite a distance away, i must say.

Alternatively, walk to Bukit Bintang (or u can take the bus). Take the KL Monorail at Imbi station to Bukit Nanas station. From there, walk up to KL Tower. From KL Tower, u can walk to Dang Wangi station and take the Putra LRT to KLCC.

When you’re in KL, try and grab a copy of the mass rapid transit networks. It’s gonna be easier for you. Or u can print it here — http://www.kiat.net/malaysia/KL/transit.html

From the Petronas Tower, u may wish to walk over to the Convention Centre and visit the Aquaria, KL’s own underwater world. The Central Market is within walking distance from your hotel. And of course, since you’re in Jalan Petaling itself, Chinatown or Petaling Street bazaar.

Hope this helps. Beware of exorbitant taxi drivers, though.

I personally usually take the train/bus or walk.

Jenny asks…

What are some great reception sites in Grand Rapids, Michigan?

I am getting married next summer in Grand Rapids, MI. I’m having a hard time finding reception venues that meet our standards. It needs to accommodate around 300-350 people.

This one says they can handle 400+

And this one too.

And this country club. I went to a wedding at a country club in FL, it was lovely.

Here is where I found it. The Knot has excellent local resource guides, and each link has an estimate of guest capacity. It is a quick way for you to make a shortlist! A good tip is to isolate things that you can compromise on since you have a limited selection of venues. Capacity? You can’t. Setting? Maybe so. And if you can’t find any you like on here, try calling the area Chamber of Commerce for suggestions, it is their job to know that kind of stuff.

I’ve been to Genting, Sunway, Mid Valley, and of course KLCC plus walking around the bridge that connects the twin towers, Menara KL, Bukit Bintang, Imbi on my last trip to KL. I’m planning to go again next week (only for 4 days) and would be thankful if you could give me more suggestions on where else to go around KL.

The best way to get to Wisma Academy at jalan 19/1 is to take a cab from Asia Jay LRT station – it shouldn’t cost you more than RM6 @off peak hour.

Sandra asks…

Any tips on how not be scammed by KL taxi drivers?

KL taxi drivers are famous for not using their meters or if they used the meters they will go to destination in a roundabout way to chock up the fares. We have been scammed twice. Yes there are the monorail or light rapid transport services available but they are not that extensive.Yesterday we took the taxi to the zoo & was charged RM85. We plan to go to Sunway lagoon & 1Utama & again need to take taxi. That puts us off now. The only alternative is taking buses but that takes time and we’re not familiar. Any tips on how not to be scammed by taxi?
Is there any relevant authority like tourism board or government ministry doing anything about this? You have promotion going on Malaysia truly Asia. On the one hand, your government spending money encouraging tourists to come & the other hand taxi drivers giving a bad name.

KL Boy’s answers:

Tip: Bargain. For this, you need to know the distance to your destination….this following is a guide:

http://www.taxiautofare.com/my/taxi-fare-card/Kuala%20Lumpur-Taxi-fare
Or
Ask them what the fare is, then mentally take 30% to 60% off and counter offer….

The thing is, you have to ask for the fare, and they expect you to bargain… So instead of getting frustrated, think of it as a game and a “unique experience”….and if you keep your cool, you can have a fine and enjoyable day….

Sometimes, they will agree to use the meter. But expect a long detour….

[Be mindful that there are honest taxi drivers…up to you to read body language…]

The phone number for complaints is marked on the taxi [ ADUN…….]…but it would be pretty useless…
